About the Frank Haven Memorial Scholarship

About Frank Haven. Francis E. "Frank" Haven Jr. was born in Hamilton, Ohio on August 6, 1948. He passed from this life October 8, 2005 at 57 years of age. Frank grew up in the Bethany and Hamilton areas of Ohio and graduated from Taft High School in Cincinnati. He married Viola Allen on August 3, 1973 in Oxford, OH. Frank attended Ohio and Indiana Universities studying Criminal Justice and served thirteen years on the Hamilton, Ohio Police Department. He also served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Frank furthered his education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah where he received a Bachelor's of Arts degree. Frank was an Associate Pastor and Counselor at the New Life Worship Center as well as the National Secretary and co-founder of the Priesthood Motorcycle Ministry. He was a Lieutenant Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Cherokee County.  Frank later retired from law enforcement and worked for the networking group at Northeastern State University from 1999 - 2005. Frank was passionate about Old Testament teaching, the National Priesthood Ministry and serving as a Reserve Deputy. During his time at NSU he made a lasting, positive impression upon his coworkers. Several coworkers began the Frank Haven Memorial Scholarship in honor their memory and friendship.

Scholarship Details

This scholarship was created by the Department of Computing and Telecommunication (now Information Technology Services) at Northeastern State University in 2007 to provide funds for students pursuing degrees in fields related to Information Systems, Computer Science, and Cyber Security.

The Frank Haven Memorial Scholarship is awarded yearly to a student in the amount of $1,000 for the Spring semester and $1,000 for the Fall semester. Preference is given to Information Technology Services student workers and technology related majors.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Must be a full time student
  • Completed a Sophomore level (30+ hours)
  • Hold a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Demonstrate a financial need

For full consideration, applicants must write a two (2) page essay about how technology will change your life and why you should be awarded the scholarship! 

  • Your essay must contain a cover page, providing your contact information

Scholarship Recipients

Ms. Jordan Stewart is the 2019-2020 recipient of the Frank Haven Memorial Scholarship. She was awarded upon completing the "How Technology will Change my Life" essay, where she demonstrated a technological impact in her future career and life. Ms. Stewart holds two jobs and is enrolled as a full time student! She is an English Education major and looks forward to graduation in Spring 2022. Ms. Natalie Hart is the 2018-2019 recipient of the Frank Haven Memorial Scholarship.  She was awarded upon completing the "How Technology will Change my Life" essay, where she demonstrated a technological impact in her future career and life.  Ms. Hart is an Office Assistant of the NSU IT Service Desk.  She is a Speech Language Pathology major and looks forward to graduation in Spring 2020.
