Windows
On Windows systems, it is necessary to verify that the student’s computer is configured to obtain an IP address automatically, rather than to request a static IP address
1) From the Start menu, click Control Panel
2) Click Network and Internet, then click Network and Sharing Center
3) On the sidebar, click Change Adapter Settings
4) Right-click Local Area Connection, then select Properties from the menu
5) On the Properties dialog, select the Networking tab
6) Select “Internet Protocol Version 4” on the list box, then click the Properties button
7) On the Internet Protocol Version 4 dialog, select the General tab, then verify that the “Obtain an IP address automatically” option is enabled. Click OK to exit
Finding the MAC or IP address of a Windows computer
1) From the Start menu or Start screen, click Run
2) In the Run dialog, type cmd, then hit Enter to open the Command Prompt
3) In the Command Prompt, type “ipconfig /all” and press the Enter key
4) The IP address and the MAC address (called the physical address) can be found in the information that is displayed, under the “Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection” header
Macintosh
On Macintosh systems, it is necessary to verify that the student’s computer is configured to obtain an IP address automatically
1) From the Apple menu, click System Preferences
2) On the System Preferences panel, click Network
3) On the list of network connections, select Ethernet
4) Verify that Configure IPv4 is set to Using DHCP
5) The IP address of the Macintosh can be found on this window
To view the MAC address of a Macintosh computer
1) From the Apple menu, click System Preferences
2) On the System Preferences panel, click Network
3) On the list of network connections, select Ethernet
4) Click the Advanced button
5) Select the Hardware tab. The MAC address can be found on this tab
PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 (PS3 and PS4)
To view the MAC address of a PlayStation gaming console
1) Using the PlayStation controller, select the Settings menu from the home screen
2) Select the System Settings menu
3) Select the System Information option
4) The MAC address of the console will be displayed on the screen
Xbox 360 or Xbox One
To view the MAC address of an Xbox gaming console
1) From the My Xbox menu, use the Xbox controller to select System Settings option
2) Select Network Settings, then select the name of the connection you are testing
3) Select Configure Network
4) Select the Additional Settings tab
5) Select the Advanced Settings option
6) The MAC address of the console will be displayed on the screen
Nintendo Switch
1) From the HOME menu, highlight and select the System Settings Icon
2) Select Internet Settings
3) Tap Other Information
4) Tap Confirm MAC Address. Your system's MAC Address will be displayed on the screen
Insignia Smart TVs
1) Press the Enter or Menu button to open the Settings Menu
2) Select Network
3) Select Wired
4) The wired MAC address will be listed as Ethernet Address or Wired MAC Address
Samsung Smart TVs
1) Press Menu then select Network then Network Settings
2) Select Wired then select Network Test
3) The wired MAC Address will be listed as Ethernet Address or Wired MAC Address
Sharp Smart TVs
1) Press Menu then select Intitial Setup
2) Select Network Setup
3) Select Connection Type
4) Select Wired
5) Select IP Setup
6) The MAC Address will be listed at the bottom
Sony Smart TVs
1) Press the Home button
2) Select Settings
3) Select Network Setup or Preferences
4) Select Setup or Wired Setup
5) Select Network Setup - Status the MAC Address will be listed
Vizio Smart TVs
1) Press the Menu button
2) Select Network
3) Select Mannual Setup
4) The RJ45 MAC address will be the physical MAC address
