Managing Google Groups

Note: All sections herein assume the steps of "Locating your Group" were completed as a prerequisite.

Locating your Group

1) Navigate to groups.google.com and login with your NSU credentials

2) Select My Groups  to view a list of groups of groups in which you are a member or manager

3) Select Manage underneath the name of the group you want to manage

 

Add Members

1) Select Direct add members on the left underneath the Members category

2) Begin typing email addresses to add to the group in the field labeled Enter email addresses...

Note: Google will try to complete the address for you as you type if it is an @nsuok.edu address. Multiple addresses can be added in this field. The list will auto-format as you complete each address

3) Add a welcome message if desired, then click the blue Add button underneath the search bar

 

Join Requests

1) Select Join requests on the left underneath the Members category

2) Fill the checkbox next to the name of each member you wish to take action on, and select the Approve applicant or Reject applicant buttons underneath the search bar

Note: When someone requests to join the group you will receive an email containing a button to take you directly to these settings.

 

Removing Members

1) Select All members on the left underneath the Members category

2) Fill the checkbox next to the name of each member you wish to remove

3) Click the Actions drop-down menu at the top, and select Remove from group

 

Allow Members to Send

1) Select All members on the left underneath the Members category

2) Fill the checkbox next to the name of each Member you wish to be able to send

3) Click the Actions drop-down menu at the top, mouse-over Set Posting Permission, then select Override - Allow Posting

 

Adjusting Permission Settings

1) Select Basic permissions on the left underneath the Permissions category

2) To change posting permissions, explore the drop down menu in the Post section. To change whether your group is open, accepting requests, or invite only, explore the drop down menu in Join the group.

3) After making changes, click the blue Save button under the search bar

Note: Many more settings are available for you to customize your group. Feel free to explore more of the manager portal than what is covered in this article.
