How to Change Default Applications in Windows 10
Note: This guide will help with changing what program will open with what file type. These steps only apply for Windows 10
Changing Default Apps with Settings
1) Click on magnifying glass in bottom left corner and type Default App Settings and select the option that shows below
2) The settings page will open and you will be able to change the default apps here. Click on the corresponding app and a drop down box will show compatible applications.
Change Default Apps by File Type
Example: Changing .pdf to open in Adobe applications instead of Edge
1) From the same page, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Choose default apps by file type
2) From this page you can search for and find the file type you need and change its default. Clicking on these options should bring a drop down box with all compatible apps. Once the correct defaults are set, you can close out the page and everything should be good to go!
Properties Method
1) Right click the appication you want to change the default for.
2) The properties menu will pop up.
3) Select the "Open with" tab. If the app you want to open the file with is not the first suggestion, select "choose another app".
4) Optional: Check the box "Always use this app to open *file/app name* files"
How to Change Default Applications on a Mac
Get Info Method
1) Right click the appication you want to change the default for.
2) Click on the "Get Info" in the tab that pops up.
3) Select the "Open with" tab. If the app you want to open the file with is not the first suggestion, select "choose another app".
4) Select "Change All"
5) Select "Continue"
